On March 8, the Science Heroes Association organized the Istanbul Second Secondary School Tournament at Gebze Technical University. The Panic at Daçka, the robotics team from Darüşşafaka Secondary School, delivered an exemplary performance and proudly achieved first place among 44 competing teams.

The team participated in the tournament with a project and robot developed under the seasonal theme of “Submerged.” Throughout the day, they underwent evaluations by a panel of judges. They participated in three robot matches, concluding the event with remarkable success.

During the jury session, students from Darüşşafaka effectively articulated their working process, innovative projects, and robotics strategies, particularly highlighting their initiative “BlueGuardian: The Fight Against Ghost Nets, the Hidden Hazards of the Seas.” Their project was presented in a compelling manner, which garnered positive feedback from the jury.
By the conclusion of the event, the Panic at Daçka team achieved the highest score in the robot matches, securing the “Championship Award,” the most prestigious accolade of the tournament. Their success was attributed to their innovative project and adherence to core values, and they also received the “First Prize for Robot Performance.” This notable achievement has qualified Panic at Daçka for the First Lego League (FLL) National Tournament, which is scheduled to take place from March 5 to March 16, 2025.

The Science Heroes Association oversees the Türkiye segment of international First LEGO League (FLL) tournaments, engaging youth aged 9 to 16. The association’s primary objective is to foster an interest in science, promote scientific thinking, and enhance awareness throughout society by introducing children and adolescents to scientific concepts at an early stage. This year, the association assembled 484 teams from various regions across Türkiye for this initiative.

Following local tournaments held in Istanbul, Antalya, Eskişehir, İzmir, Ankara, Mersin, and Ordu, the qualifying teams will reconvene on March 15-16, 2025, to compete in the FLL Türkiye Tournament
