TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE GROUP
As the Turkish Language and Literature Group, our priority is to raise students who can use their mother tongue effectively and fluently, and who can express themselves verbally and in writing in a relevant and aesthetic manner.
One of our fundamental principles is to raise our students as world citizens that are equipped with 21st-century competencies, are curious, modern, and innovative researchers and explicators caring about national and universal values and are loyal to Atatürk’s principles and reforms.
In line with the understanding of excellence in today’s education, the preparation of course contents and in-class activities and the selection of reading books are all based on the national curriculum (prepared by the Ministry of National Education); and technology is utilized in all steps.
With reading workshops where novels selected from Turkish and world literature are read critically, theater activities that aim at improving students’ social learning skills and developing an understanding of aesthetic pleasure by enabling them to participate in an artistic activity, academic trips that are planned within the framework of the MEB curriculum (Sait Faik Abasıyanık Museum, Galata Mevlevi House, Aşiyan Museum), our students are guided to have the opportunity to experience literature directly in the dynamism of life.
Our students’ success is assessed via written exams, practical exams, performance homework, and projects according to the nature of the course based on learning outcomes of the curriculum.
The Turkish Language and Literature Group carries out its works targeting the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) in a planned manner, starting from the 9th grade through the 12th grade. Various resources and practice exam examples are used to prepare the students for the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and Field Qualification Test (AYT).
Under the supervision of our branch teachers, the students are encouraged to participate in visual (screenwriting, short film, etc.), literary (composition, story, essay, poetry, etc.) and scientific project competitions (TÜBİTAK) organized across the district, province, and country.
The “Young Sait Faik” story competition has been held across Turkey and has become a tradition since 2006.
Interviews are arranged every year, bringing together prominent artists from the literary world with students.
Led by the teachers of the Turkish Language and Literature Group, an annual magazine titled “Daçka Ruhu” (Darüşşafaka Spirit) that demonstrates students’ works throughout the year is published.
