The first concrete outcome of the “From Dream to Reality” project, which was implemented by Darüşşafaka Society in 2009 in cooperation with P&G to raise the leaders of the future, was the From Dream to Reality Fatin Gökmen Planetarium opened on April 16, 2010. It was the first planetarium in İstanbul to combine a digital system and a fixed dome. This 7-meter-diameter sky laboratory allows the training of 36 children in a single session by examining the sky at any time and in any region, approaching celestial bodies millions of kilometers away as if they could touch them in a few seconds.
Visitors of the Planetarium have the opportunity to watch the followıng films: Stars, Molecularium, Astronaut, We Are Astronomers, and Black Holes in Turkish and English.
The Observatory undertakes the task of explaining the captivating order of the sky to our children who grow up unable to notice the sky due to light pollution. Opened in January 2012, it has a dome 3 meters in diameter and can accommodate 20 children. The 14″ Meade LX 200 GPS-AGF telescope at the observatory contains data about 140,000 celestial bodies and can automatically align with these. The observatory allows the observation of not only planets, stars and deep space objects, but also the sun during the day thanks to its solar filter.
Our campus also has a sundial. It was made at the TÜBİTAK camp hosted by our school and organized together with Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University on 17-22 June 2013.
Students from different grade levels use the planetarium, observatory, and sundial in lessons and school club activities. Additionally, student groups from kindergarten to university can visit these venues free of charge by reserving a visit date and time.
Groups of no less than 10 and no more than 36 people willing to visit the said venues and participate in events can request an appointment by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
