Ten students from Darüşşafaka High School, across 9th and 10th grades, have demonstrated remarkable achievement in the 4me4all project, an initiative funded by the European Union project, designed to enhance the social and emotional welfare of youth and encourage their engagement in sports through the establishment of a social support model facilitated by seasoned professional athletes who act as mentors.
On January 13th, the students were invited to attend the International Basketforall Final Conference at the Olympic House Conference Hall of the Turkish National Olympic Committee. The conference included an exchange of information involving the participation of sports clubs BK Klatovy from Czechia and SCS from Bulgaria with a primary focus on exploring the use of basketball as a means of social empowerment for disadvantaged youth and on discussing strategies for increasing the capacity of underprivileged young people in basketball.
On February 7th, students from Darüşşafaka convened online for an introductory and project planning session with the project mentors, focusing on introducing mentors and students, proposed topics, objectives, and anticipated activities.
On March 16th, students from Darüşşafaka, who participated in the project, took part in the “Cultural Heritage as a Source of Development of Future Competence in Youth” event at the Youth Re-Autonomy Foundation of Türkiye. They conducted workshops focusing on the contributions of cultural heritage to the future in this program that was attended by participants from Estonia, Poland, Italy, and Türkiye.
On April 29th, as part of the project, students and mentors participated in a planned ‘Going to a Match’ activity by attending the Darüşşafaka Lassa-Anadolu Efes basketball match. After an announcement by Darüşşafaka athletes, the students were able to enter the match and had the opportunity to meet the referees. Subsequently, a workshop was conducted at the sports hall after the game.
Upon completion of the project, the students were presented with their certificates during a ceremony held at the Sinan Erdem Sports Hall. Prior to the ceremony, they had the opportunity to interview Dr. Serhan Antalyalı, the General Secretary of the Basketball Federation, at the Basketball Federation to discuss the project processes and activities.
