A group of 14 students from the 5th grade of Darüşşafaka Middle School participated in the Darüşşafaka Summer Camp organized by the Güneşane Foundation between August 5 and 26. The foundation was established by Prof. Dr. Alev Gerçeker and Saffet Karpat, a 1976 graduate of Darüşşafaka High School.
At the Güneşane Foundation, located on a farm next to the ancient city of Assos in Çanakkale, the students participated in various workshops for 21 days under the guidance of educators interested in alternative education pedagogies. In addition to creative arts activities such as creative dance, music, ceramics, and watercolor painting, they also took part in craft workshops like sewing, embroidery, and notebook-making. They also engaged in farm tasks such as harvesting, hoeing, gardening, and animal care.
The students, who first learned to swim in the pool and then in the sea, conducted experiments in the farm’s laboratory and explored the ancient city of Assos.
Inspired by nature and living in a peaceful community, the students experienced the joy of thinking, feeling, and creating.
